Hide it with a Frame! Disguise your TV or wall safe with a custom frame.

You've spent lots of time and money to design your room and get it just right, but something is off. It's not the furniture, or the color scheme...it's your TV! Your flat screen has become the dominant focal point of the room. When it's powered off, it looks like a big black box. Thanks to advancing technology, televisions are much more stylish than they used to be, but visually they are still just a black box. We have clever framing options so you can hide your large TV!

Two Ideas for Disguising Your TV:
Hide the TV Completely

Picture

Use framed artwork to hide your recessed TV. The art should be large enough to fully cover the TV’s dimensions (we’ll help with measurements). After we frame the art, we can hinge it to the wall to open when the TV is in use. Voila - Hidden!

Disguise the TV as Framed Art

Frame the TV itself! With a frame around the screen, the TV becomes a work of art. If you have a ‘smart’ TV, you can program it to scroll through your digital photo collection, allowing it to look like art and bring a smile every time you notice it.

Hide Your Safe in Plain Sight

Safes should be hidden because of the valuable items inside. You certainly don’t want to advertise that you have a safe. Hide it in plain sight. We can build a frame that hinges away from the wall to conceal your treasures.

Lighting

Lighting your artwork is very important, no matter what it is illuminating. If you have covered your TV or safe completely, light the framed art so you can appreciate it.

Tip:
Install a dimmer switch for ambiance.

More Clever Ways to Hide Things with Framing!

Hide your keys or money:
We can build a frame that is easy to open and easy to hide small valuables

Show the record cover, but hide the record:
Frame your favorite album or CD cover, and in another attached frame, show the record disc. Best of both worlds!

Hide a door? Yes - you can hide a door!
We can frame a large piece of art and secure it to the door so it doesn't shift every time it is opened.

If you want it hidden, we can build a frame for it.

I am a designer and am working on two jobs. I would like to have the TV RECESSED into the wall above the fireplace and have the art framed and the Tv framed..when ready to view the TV, The canvas would roll up into the the top of the frame. The tv size would be 68”. Could you let me know if this is something you can do and what my cost would be. Thank you.

Hi Mary Ann, and thanks for your question. To recess the TV, you would need to speak to someone in construction. That is outside the scope of our services. We could frame the TV, however. We would need to see it in person to provide a really accurate price, but if you can provide the height and width dimensions of the TV along with a photo (you can email to wendy@kenscustomframes.com), I can give you a ballpark estimate on that. We would also be able to create a frame for artwork that you selected to cover the TV, but the only way we have to affix to the wall is via a piano hinge, so that the artwork hinges open like a door. Are you thinking that the canvas would electronically roll up into the frame or manually? If electronically, you may need to speak with an electrical engineer to help you design the mechanism for something like that. We would be happy to provide the frame depending on the specs. If it was done manually, I'm concerned that it won't give you the look you want because without stretching it on a frame of some kind the canvas will appear loose and wavy. Also note that original oil paintings can become damaged from repeated rollings (not sure what type of art you were planning to use). We do offer complimentary in-store consultations and would be happy to talk through your ideas in-person and look at any photos, artwork or drawings that you have to help you brainstorm on ideas. No appointment is necessary. We are here Tuesday - Friday from 8:30 - 5:30 and Saturday from 9 - 5. We are closed on Sunday and Monday. Hope to hear from you soon!

I have a friend who's trying to fuse both rustic and modern aesthetics on his home. I like your idea of framing the TV so that it'll look like a digital photo collection. We should probably look for a frame shop that could make this idea a reality.

Love this idea! Eclectic aesthetics are my favorite, too. Framing TVs can be really challenging because they aren't always exactly square and sometimes have unusual curves and shapes that don't fit easily into a traditional frame. Make sure your framer is aware of the challenges and has experience building frames for TVs. There are also limited options for mouldings. As inconvenient as it seems, it is your best bet to take the TV to the frame shop for an accurate estimate and fit. In the end though, the trouble is worth it! Good luck and enjoy your design!

I want to get my TV hung up on the wall nicely. It makes sense that I would want to get a picture frame put around it! It's interesting that you can do that to make the TV look a bit less obtrusive.

I love that you talked that a huge screen of TV could be the point of your room. Yesterday, my wife told me that she was hoping to find a custom picture frame service as she wants the arts of our son to be framed, and she asked if I had any idea what would be the best option to consider. Thanks to this informative article, I'll be sure to tell her that she can consult a trusted custom picture framing service as they can provide her desired design.
