Add Glam With Mirrors

Create drama, style, and space!

Hosting a holiday party and want to dress up your décor? Looking to add a little drama to an otherwise ordinary room? There’s an easy way to do both: a mirror custom framed with a touch of glamour!

Mirrors can do many things:

Mirrors & Space

Mirrors can do wonders for the way a room feels. A floor-to-(almost)-ceiling mirror draws the eye upward, making a room appear taller. Place a mirror at the end of a hallway to create the illusion of greater length, or add one to an entryway to make the space feel more open. This simple design trick works especially well in smaller spaces, such as dressing rooms and bathrooms, where every bit of visual space counts.

Mirrors & Size

One of the biggest mistakes when choosing a mirror is going too small! A mirror should be large enough to serve its purpose, whether that means:

  • Reflecting your face and perhaps your outfit

  • Capturing a scene or a view

  • Bringing more light into the room

  • Making a statement

Smaller mirrors can work beautifully when grouped together to create a decorative display. But when you want a mirror to make an impact on its own, size matters!

The best part about having a mirror custom framed? We can create it to the exact dimensions your space needs.

TIP: Hanging a mirror above the mantel? Aim for a mirror that's about the same width as the mantel or a few inches narrower on each side. Ideally, it should fill at least two-thirds of the available width. Want to make your ceiling feel higher? Choose a taller mirror to draw the eye upward.

Mirrors & Light

Looking for a natural way to brighten a room? A mirror can help! Position it to reflect the light that naturally enters the space, bringing more brightness into the room. For the best effect, try placing a mirror next to a window rather than directly opposite it. Voila! More light!

What about rooms with few or no windows, such as dressing rooms or entryways? Place a lamp or wall sconce near the mirror to reflect and amplify its light. Want to add a little glamour? Hang a chandelier nearby and use softer lighting to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Remember, the larger the mirror, the more light it can reflect!

Mirrors & Frames

When creating a glamorous look, silver and metallic frames are often the first choice, especially for a classic Hollywood glam style. In this example, three frames work together to add depth and visual interest, while a beveled edge adds even more drama.

But silver isn't the only way to make a statement. Don't overlook darker frames, either! This mirror pairs a deep brown frame with rich gold edging for a look that's warm, elegant, and impossible to ignore. Nothing says “Look at me!” quite like gold.

Dressing rooms and bathrooms are perfect places to add a little glamour and create a space where you can admire the beautiful you! This mirror features a pink-toned gold frame that complements the other pink accents in the décor. When you walk into this bathroom, the mirror becomes the focal point, reflecting the room and its details in a beautifully framed finish.

Mirrors & Hanging

Framed artwork is typically hung with its center about 60 inches above the floor, roughly eye level. Mirrors are a little different. Their placement depends on what you want them to reflect and how you plan to use them.

  • In an entryway or hallway: Hang the mirror at a comfortable height for checking your appearance as you pass by. Think about who will be using it and what you want to see reflected.

  • In a living space: Placement depends on what's nearby. Above a fireplace, a mirror generally looks best when hung no more than 12 inches above the mantel. Behind a sofa, keep the mirror close enough to the furniture that the two feel connected rather than separated.

  • Consider the reflection: What will you see when you look into the mirror? If it faces a blank wall, consider adding artwork for the mirror to reflect. If it captures a beautiful mountain view or garden, position it to showcase as much of that scenery as possible. With the right placement, a mirror can become a work of art in its own right.

  • Want glamour with a twist? Frame several small mirrors in different styles and finishes, then hang them together as a grouping. The mix of frames creates a distinctive decorative statement.

How to Create a Glamorous Custom-Framed Mirror

  • Choose your space. Which room could benefit from a mirror? An entryway, dressing room, bathroom, or living area?

  • Decide what you want to achieve. Do you need more light, the illusion of more space, or a touch of glamour?

  • Find your mirror. Have a mirror you love but want to give it a more dramatic look? Or are you planning to purchase a new, unframed mirror? Either way, we can help you explore your framing options.

  • Take photos and measurements. Snap a picture of the space where the mirror will hang and measure the available area. Photos of your room’s décor, furniture, and finishes will also help us recommend a frame that complements your style.
